Untamed, by Glennon Doyle

By Allison Flitter

Untamed by Glennon Doyle was one of the best books I read in 2020. Glennon Doyle wrote this novel about her experience finding her voice and how others could find their voice (specific to women, but could be applied to men as well). She takes the reader through her journey of finding out about her husband’s infidelity and how she finds herself in divorce and in finding new love.

Through her journey, she sh ares with the reader what it is like to find your voice. One of my favorite quotes from the book states, “To be brave is to forsake all others and to be true to yourself. That is the vow of a confident girl.” Even though you may have learned to find your voice in one situation, your voice will always be evolving. Although you often must work in a group, team, or in a family unit, you always have to think about yourself and what your voice is saying. It can be hard for those in the work world to balance work/life and this book is able to give you the tools to achieve the balance of using your voice and knowing what your voice is saying.

Glennon uses her story of going through a divorce and finding new love to show how her decisions affected others around her including her children. Even though she was working to find her voice and use her voice, she was aware of how her children and family would change. She did not let that stop her, but the awareness was helpful when making the major life changing decision.

Since I do not want to give away all of the book, I would just say, I highly recommend reading this book. This book is good for men, women, people going through a hard time, or people who are having a great time. The novel challenges you to think and dig deep into your feelings, which is not easy.
