Industrial Hygiene (IH) Program Ownership

  • Site expert in chemical hazards identification, exposure assessment, personal protective equipment (PPE) assignment
  • Manage exposure monitoring programs.
  • Conduct/coordinate site monitoring programs
  • Report monitoring results
  • Make data driven decisions on the effectiveness of control measures and PPE.
  • Manage equipment needs for IH programs
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA exposure standards/Permissible Exposure Limits (PELs) and follow corporate/industry occupational exposure recommendations
  • Provide technical expertise and customer service for the IH program, including:
    • Ownership of site policies, procedures, and training materials (develop and implement)
    • Conducting training, as needed
    • Liaison between site, external customers, contractors, third-party contractors, and regulatory agencies
  • Evaluate new and proposed manufacturing processes for hazards, PPE requirements, and facility siting
  • Injury prevention (ergonomics, lifting, etc.)
  • Engineering controls (containment, ventilation, facility design)

Hearing Conservative Program Ownership

  • Site expert in occupational noise exposure and the Hearing Conservation Amendments (29 CFR 1910.95).
  • Monitor and assess noise hazards, and develop / maintain:
    • List of impacted employees and areas
    • Noise maps
    • Training and procedures
    • Signage requirements
    • PPE requirements
    • Work with medical surveillance to ensure hearing conversation monitoring and period audiometry

High Potent API Handling Program Ownership

  • Site expert in HPAPI Handling Requirements, serve as a consultant to engineering and operations resources during implementation of requirements.
  • Site owner of HPAPI Risk Assessment process and necessary controls.
  • Training and development of internal ESH and Engineering resources.
  • Participation in development of corporate HPAPI requirements, representing operational needs

Occupational Health Program Ownership

  • Ensure required medical surveillance is conducted per relevant Federal, State, and corporate requirements.
  • Ensure Corporate Health and Wellness Initiatives are implemented at the site level
  • Work with contracted Occupational Health Provider to ensure appropriate completion of required medical surveillance.
  • Work with contracted Occupational Health Provider to develop treatment protocols.

General ESHS Program, Regulatory, and Management System Support

  • Ensure compliance with all the authorization limits present on the site and support their updating according to the industrial plan and company growth.
  • Engage peers and site customers in meeting compliance requirements and creating opportunities for streamlining compliance approaches.
  • Provide and implement ESH technical assistance to support day-to-day manufacturing and projects to promote the design, construction, and operation of safe and compliant processes.
  • Development and implement compliance tools to assist the site in understanding and maintaining compliance with program requirements.
  • Find and recommend concepts for improving IH and ESH elements, including hazard control, evaluation, and processes.
  • Perform program and management system audits.
  • Define the emergency plan and contribute to the definition of the Business Continuity Plan.
  • Lead Internal and governmental agency inspections for relevant programs.
  • Collaborate and support the development of EHS standards, practices, and procedures with Corporate an Region EHS Experts.
  • Exchange information and establish relationships with site to promote ESH best practices and compliance.
  • Keep abreast of changes to regulatory requirements and site applicability.
  • Maintain environmental and safety knowledge by interfacing with external environmental and safety organizations and obtaining appropriate training.
  • Support ESHS event and change management as needed or as assigned programs, including evaluating ESHS program compliance data and events, taking follow-up action as appropriate and performing or providing guidance for investigations if needed.
  • Develop supporting relationships with internal and external customers, including participation various departmental, site, and/or regional ESHS-based teams and meetings, as needed.
  • Support enhancement of competencies of ESH, engineering, and RD&I and resources in the areas Industrial Hygiene and Occupational Health.
  • Prepare or contribute to preparation of ESHS compliance reports, ensuring data are correct and auditable; prepare ESHS data / program summaries and metrics and present to site and business line management.
  • Contribute to establishing departmental goals and objectives aimed at improving ESH performance.
  • Contribute to actively managing ESHS spending

Responsible Care (RC) / ISO 14001 Management System

  • Support implementation and proper execution of ESHS Management System components.
  • Support annual management system review

Requirements

  • ESH Engineer; BS / MS in Chemical Engineering or related Engineering with 5+ years ESH experience in a high hazard Pharmaceutical or Chemical Process Industry environment.
  • Good communication and empathy skills.
  • Good analytical skills.
  • Ability to work in a team.
  • Knowledge of OHSAS and environmental regulations.
