The Electrical and Automation Engineer is responsible for the specification, installation, development and maintenance of electrical, automation and controls systems that affect safety, quality, reliability and productivity in manufacturing.

Responsibilities:

  • Apply expertise in automation technologies to improve manufacturing processes and support the business strategy.
  • Develop and apply expertise in coating thickness gauges, defect detection systems, and other quality control systems.
  • Develop and apply expertise in machine controls such as PLC, HMI, servos, drives and discrete control systems.
  • Ensure the electrical power distribution systems are maintained and serviced regularly.
  • Ensure electrical and controls drawings, backups and records are accurate and organized.
  • Lead and execute electrical and automation projects. Level 1 engineers lead projects that are narrow in scope and work under the direction of the engineering manager or designee.
  • Collaborate within multi-discipline project teams on broad-scoped projects.
  • Interface with external contractors, vendors, engineering and design firms.
  • Write operating procedures, equipment commissioning and qualification protocols that pertain to your projects.
  • Provide training to automation system users.
  • Actively pursue a strong understanding of the manufacturing processes and operations techniques used at and the coating industry.
  • Conduct all aspects of position in a professional, respectful manner consistent with Guiding Principles; embraces 6S LEAN culture; organizes personal work areas and appearance consistent with corporate and divisional professional image

Requirements:

  • B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Experience in Allen Bradley automation and control systems preferred
  • A self starting team player that can handle multiple and changing priorities
  • Strong problem solving, decision making, and project management skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Communicate fluently in English
  • Tolerate odors and noise associated with manufacturing operations
  • Travel throughout the manufacturing areas, buildings and campus to allow personal observations of equipment and facilities associated with responsibilities
  • Travel to customer and vendor facilities as required
  • Ability to adjust work schedule based upon project needs; this could include availability to work nights and weekends and/or travel as needed
  • Computer literate with proficiency in automation systems, especially HMI and PLC development software. Proficiency in MS Office and AutoCad preferred
  • Mixing, coating, drying, web handling, or slitting operations and equipment experience is a plus
  • Lean and continuous improvement experience is a plus
