Job Description
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining packaging equipment to ensure efficient and reliable operation with minimal downtime. This role requires the ability to work independently with minimal supervision while collaborating with Engineering, Packaging, and Maintenance teams to improve equipment performance and ensure compliance with cGMP standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Work independently and remain self-motivated with minimal supervision.
- Troubleshoot and perform necessary repairs on packaging equipment individually or under the supervision of Engineering.
- Perform preventative maintenance (PMs) on all packaging equipment.
- Perform equipment set-ups and changeovers for packaging operations.
- Regularly monitor machinery to ensure efficient operation and minimal downtime.
- Ensure all equipment operates in a continuous state of qualification in accordance with cGMP requirements.
- Document all work performed in logbooks and SAP.
- Maintain inventory of necessary change parts and spare parts.
- Communicate required change parts and spare parts to the Maintenance Planner.
- Troubleshoot vision systems, serialization equipment, barcode readers, and PLCs as required.
- Work with Engineering to install, troubleshoot, and improve packaging equipment.
- Collaborate with teams or work independently to develop ideas that improve equipment efficiency and throughput.
- Maintain flexibility to work alongside Packaging Technicians on the production line as needed.
- Assist in staging and preparing equipment for scheduled packaging batch runs.
- Move materials within the finished goods warehouse to appropriate racking locations when required.
- Read, understand, and follow machine operation manuals and schematics.
- Utilize computer systems as required for documentation and maintenance tracking.
- Assist other Maintenance Technicians with general maintenance duties when needed.
- Maintain flexibility with work hours.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED, or technical school diploma required.
- Associate’s Degree in Electromechanical Technology or equivalent certification preferred.
- Packaging line experience preferred (cGMP experience is a plus).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment required.
- Strong technical background and mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting and repairing equipment.
- Experience with PLCs, HMIs, and pneumatic systems required.
- Knowledge of serialization systems.
- Technical expertise with electromechanical systems, servo and PLC-driven machinery.
- Experience with packaging equipment such as cartoning, labeling, and liquid filling machines.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Working knowledge of electricity, basic electronics, hardware, and measuring instruments.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical drawings and schematics.
- Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
Additional Requirements
- Ability to gown and work in protective gear as required by SOPs.
- Fork truck operation experience preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Excellent vision.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
- Ability to safely use hand tools.
- Ability to bend, reach, stretch, and work in tight spaces.
