Product and Departmental Support

  • Work under the guidance of the Manager, Automation Technology to maintain Company’s product software and system architecture. Tasks include evaluation of proposed revisions, software development, version control, and notification of design revisions to the departmental and management staff.
  • Prepare, maintain, evaluate, issue, and/or approve technical documentation for the Process Automation Department. Provide follow-up training if required.
  • When assigned by management, provide support (mentoring and training) to the departmental staff in developing and delivering solutions for higher level, complex automation issues.
  • When assigned by management, provide support to our field staff in resolving field problems which are beyond the skill set of the typical commissioning, automation, or validation engineer.
  • Work under the guidance of the Manager, Automation Technology to identify and develop new automation technology (software and hardware) for integration into our existing automation products. An emphasis should be put on technology that will reduce hardware and development costs while not putting a technical burden on the commissioning and project execution staff.

Project Support

  • Lead the Automation Departmental effort on assigned projects, as part of a team or independently. Lead the team (or work individually) to meet the following objectives:
  • Develop control system application code in accordance with the project schedule and budget.
  • Interface with the Company equipment manufacturing companies and internal departments to obtain a complete understanding of the Company equipment and control system scope of supply, project schedule, customer specifications, and project budget
  • Effectively communicate project delays, scope changes, customer relationship issues, technical deficiencies, etc. to the customer, Company project team, and/or to Company management.
  • Execute software test protocols.
  • Provide commissioning services, customer training, validation support, warrantee support, and service support for Company equipment and control systems.

  • May be requested to assist with projects assigned to another lead Automation Engineer. These project assignments may include execution of tasks requiring enhanced technical skills or be necessitated by departmental scheduling priorities.

Other Responsibilities

  • When assigned by management, act as a mentor for new department employees within the Process Automation Department.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance positive interpersonal relationships with staff members of the Company Group worldwide.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Experience

  • Knowledge of PLC, SCADA, reporting tools, and database software and hardware platforms. The knowledge is preferred on a variety of platforms that are typically specified by the pharmaceutical industry including Rockwell, AVEVA, Microsoft SQL, PC, thin client, etc.
  • Programming experience using the .NET framework and Microsoft Visual Studio. Experience with WPF (Windows Presentation Foundation) is preferred.
  • Intensive knowledge of integrated automation, information systems, and network design as applied to industrial process control in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Experience with Linux operating system configuration and with Linux command line instructions.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Windows OS system configuration and administration.
  • The ability to independently develop, test, and roll out new automation specific technical solutions.
  • The ability to maintain (existing) product baseline software including technical descriptions, sales information, documents, and operating manuals.
  • The ability to provide automation related technical guidance and support to the technical staff within Company Air Techniques and directly to customers.
  • The ability to recognize trends in the industry and to make appropriate recommendations for modifying our automation systems to meet these emerging requirements.
  • Must be aware of cGMP’s procedures and practices and the implication on control system development and modifications.
  • Must have good troubleshooting skills.
  • Travel up to 15% to customer sites to perform onsite service and provide onsite system commissioning support for Company control systems.

Education:

  • Minimum of five years of relevant experience.
  • Minimum of a four-year degree in engineering, engineering technology, computer science or equivalent experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
