Job Summary

This role provides leadership, strategic direction, and tactical execution in safety, health, environment, and sustainability (EHS) for the assigned location. The position is responsible for developing and implementing programs that manage, mitigate, and, where possible, eliminate EHS risks for employees, contractors, facilities, and surrounding communities.

The role may also advise on enterprise-wide EHS strategies and initiatives.


Primary Responsibilities

Business (30%)

  • Support development of enterprise strategic EHS plans aligned with business and functional needs.

  • Ensure objectives align with best practices for occupational and environmental health and safety.

  • Partner with location leadership to develop robust EHS plans that meet regulatory and internal requirements.

  • Establish location-specific EHS goals, monitor progress, and report performance.

  • Assist in developing the annual EHS budget; manage and monitor spending against plan.

Technical (40%)

  • Contribute to the design and implementation of environmental, health, safety, and sustainability programs across the enterprise.

  • Serve as a technical EHS resource for the site leadership team.

  • Implement enterprise EHS policies, procedures, and programs.

  • Oversee training and inspection programs to ensure compliance with occupational EHS standards.

  • Monitor EHS program performance and conduct ongoing risk analyses to identify emerging issues and develop mitigation strategies.

  • Lead execution of initiatives to eliminate hazards and reduce risks.

  • Conduct continuous assessments of EHS hazards and provide technical expertise to ensure compliance with regulations and internal requirements.

  • Manage incident investigations, ensuring timely and complete corrective actions.

  • Implement programs to minimize workers’ compensation claims and costs, providing hands-on support as needed.

  • Develop and deliver EHS training programs.

  • Lead sustainability initiatives to achieve corporate sustainability goals.

Culture & Employee Development (30%)

  • Lead and develop EHS professionals (if applicable).

  • Build collaborative relationships with peers, direct reports, and internal stakeholders.

  • Coach employees at all levels to foster a strong EHS culture.

  • Act as a change agent, promoting innovation and challenging traditional practices.


Education & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences, Occupational Health, Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, Industrial Hygiene, or related field; or equivalent education/experience.

  • 6+ years of progressive EHS experience in manufacturing or production operations.

  • Strong knowledge and experience with EHS Management Systems.

  • Deep understanding of applicable EHS regulations.

  • Proven ability to collaborate and negotiate with government officials, consultants, and third-party stakeholders.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and gain trust in a matrix environment.

  • Strategic thinker with excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.

  • Resilient self-starter, able to act independently and adapt in a fast-changing environment.

  • Strong analytical skills; ability to interpret data to manage risk.

  • Knowledge of Return-to-Work programs and policies.

  • Demonstrated commitment to business ethics and integrity.
