Our client, an established pharmaceutical organization is seeking a highly motivated capital program manager to support the company’s rapid growth. The ideal candidate will lead the engineering project management team responsible for ensuring the facilities remain at the forefront of innovation through continuous improvement projects as well as new greenfield projects. This role will be responsible for refining and managing the capital project program in addition to the direct management of various construction and engineering projects from concept through qualification.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements a capital project program that is aligned with company goals and objectives through strategic planning and success project execution
  • Provides leadership throughout the project by collaborating with clients, architects, engineers, contractors, or other involved parties; develops detailed description of jobs and materials necessary to complete project
  • Responsible for all aspects of the project, including developing and managing project controls, updating project stakeholders, supervising multidisciplinary design teams, and managing contractors
  • Schedules and coordinates projects in logical steps and allocates project resources necessary to achieve each milestone
  • Prepares and submits budget estimates and regularly communicates with stakeholders concerning project progress and costs
  • Ensures adherence to the budget and, when unexpected complications or issues arise, makes quick and necessary adjustments
  • Ensures safety standards and guidelines are followed on the jobsite and that all safety codes are met in construction
  • Oversees contract negotiations, revisions, and additions and adherence by all parties
  • Ensures that the project is constructed and documented in accordance with the contract documents and good engineering practices
  • Responsible for managing and maintaining relationships with contractors, design firms, and consultants; including, but not limited to reviewing proposals, awarding bids, managing contracts, and allocating resources
  • Collaborates with clients, supervisory staff, contractors, and design professionals to discuss and resolve problems, including work procedures, complaints, and construction or design issues
  • Manages and leads actions that are necessary due to delays, bad weather, or emergencies at construction sites
  • Develops and maintains good working relationships with a variety of people, including owners, managers, designers, supervisors, tradespersons, and craft workers
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Management of engineering project management team
  • Supervises each contractor and subcontractor to ensure that work is conducted at a high level of safety and quality
  • Supervises design team to ensure that work is performed in alignment with the project concept and produces a high quality deliverable that is executable

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to manage a large portfolio of projects ranging in varying sizes, durations, and complexities
  • Adept in developing and managing project controls
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Thorough understanding of contracts, plans, specifications, and regulations related to the construction and pharmaceutical industry
  • Ability to make intelligent and quick decisions, working well under pressure, and when faced with unexpected occurrences or delays

  • Thorough understanding of engineering, architectural, and other construction drawings

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Science, Construction Management, or Engineering required
  • 10+ years of project experience working in the construction industry required
  • EIT certification preferred
  • Experience with the pharmaceutical industry is preferred
